By Jenny Tobin | Published 6/26/2012

No matter how you choose to bust a move, our New York dance classes list has you covered.

Dancing

From tango to tap and everything in between, New York has it all when it comes to dancing. In a city this big, it’s not hard to find a place to get your groove on, but finding a place to learn how to do it may be something you want to spend a little time researching. New York being as big as it is, also happens to be home to dozens of dance schools, and navigating them all may prove difficult. We know you’d rather spend your time actually dancing than combing through a myriad of options, so we’ve combed through thousands of reviews on dance classes to bring you the following five top-rated NYC-based dance classes.

Ballet

Adult Group Beginner Ballet

Anna Griffin Dance
Hell's Kitchen, Manhattan

Anna Griffin came to NYC from Oregon with more than fifteen years of dance teaching experience under her belt. She continues to train with some of the best dancers in the city and performs, choreographs, and is even a faculty member at the Broadway Dance Center and Mark Morris Dance Group. In short, she knows what she’s doing, and her classes are some of the best in show. Her Adult Group Beginner Ballet class is geared for adults who are looking to get started learning ballet, introducing you to basics such as body placement and awareness, rhythm, and strengthening and lengthening your body. She teaches in a fun, relaxed environment and over the course of just four weeks will help you cross “learn ballet” off your bucket list. Students really love Anna’s patience and individual attention she gives to everyone in the class.

Salsa

Colombian Salsa Level 1

Colombian Salsa Level 1
Midtown, Manhattan

At Piel Canela, Salsa is typically the name of the game. Though they have classes for a variety of things from Reggaeton to Bellydance, they teach a variety of Salsa forms such as On-2, On-1, Cuban, and of course, Colombian. With multiple classes running every day, you’ll have no problem going from mild to incredibly hot… on the dance floor, we mean. In Colombian Salsa, Piel Canela will teach you all the fundamentals of the salsa clubs originating from Cali, Colombia, a.k.a Cali Style Salsa. If when you think of Salsa you think big tricks and bigger lifts, this is the style for you, often frowned upon by Salsa traditionalists but one hell of a good time for people who like to really move. If you’re looking for the rebel’s Salsa dance class, look no further.

Tango

Tango Date and Class for Couples

Strictly Tango NYC
Hell's Kitchen, Manhattan

No matter your level, it’s sure to bring something unique to your romance, and maybe you’ll even find a new hobby to share!
