Consider all the wonderful skirt designs you could learn to create: pleated skirts with structured details, skirts featuring flounces and ruffles, skirts with strategic cutouts, skirts with elegant draping effects, professional work skirts, festive party skirts, and formal occasion skirts. The possibilities for skirt design are truly endless, offering creative opportunities for expression and style.
This comprehensive class provides an in-depth exploration of designing and constructing various skirt styles while perfecting finishing details including waistbands, functional pockets, professional hems, linings, and other essential construction techniques. You will master the specialized methods required to create distinctive details and construct beautifully-fitted skirts customized to your measurements using your personal sloper skirt pattern. Throughout the six-week course, you will pattern draft multiple skirt styles, construct them in muslin test fabric, and fit them precisely to your body. This process enables you to refine your designs before cutting final pieces from fashion fabric, allowing you to build an entirely new wardrobe of professionally-constructed skirts.
The class meets weekly for six consecutive weeks, with each session focusing on designing and constructing one specific skirt style using flat pattern methods and muslin fitting. You will have the creative freedom to add your personal design flair and unique details to every skirt style you create.
Week 1: Pattern draft a complete skirt and construct it in muslin test fabric
Week 2: Fit your first muslin skirt to your body, make necessary pattern alterations, and either construct a second test muslin or sew your first skirt in final fashion fabric
Week 3: Pattern draft a second skirt style and sew it in muslin
Week 4: Fit your second muslin skirt, adjust patterns as needed, then create a second test muslin or sew in fashion fabric
Week 5: Pattern draft a third skirt design and construct it in muslin
Week 6: Fit your third muslin skirt, make pattern adjustments, and create a third test muslin or complete construction in fashion fabric
