Class Description

Description

What you'll learn in this art business course:

Why do we create Museums and endeavor to have our own art collections? What are the historical precedents? This course traces the emergence of each of these art forms: the Print, the Painting, Drawings, Sculpture and Ceramics, along with the emergence of the Art Collector with a particular emphasis on this history as it pertains to New York.

The course is designed as a practical guide to curating a collection of fine works, including selection, placement, budgeting and installing. The discussion showcases a multitude of works, in each art form, that are available for purchase today together with an insiders guide to the appropriate galleries and dealers, the art fairs and auctions.

Course Outline
  • Part 1. Collecting Original Prints A History and Practical Guide
  • Part 2. Collecting Fine Drawings and Paintings. A History and Practical Guide
  • Part 3. Collecting Sculpture and Ceramics A History and Practical Guide
