What you'll learn in this pottery wheel class:

Master the art of working on the potter’s wheel.

Basic classes begin with fundamentals; new forms and glazing and decorating techniques are demonstrated each week. In intermediate/advanced classes, fine-tune your throwing skills and explore a variety of vessel forms. Investigate complex surface-decorating techniques and foster a personal style.

Disclaimer: Our studios come equipped with 25 electric potters' wheels, a gas reduction kiln and three electric kilns. During the fall and spring terms you’ll have the opportunity to take classes using stoneware, and in the summer month’s porcelain is the material of choice. All work is glaze-fired to cone 10. Clay is included in the cost of tuition (unless you use bagged clay, which may be purchased for $20 per 25-pound bag). Firing charge is five cents per cubic inch for two firings for all work made in classes and workshops. Students must supply their own tools, which may be purchased from 92Y.

Question from Ellie v.
Hi. If there is a saturday class I cannot make, would it be possible to make it up on a thursday or another saturday?
Answer from Georgia C. CourseHorse StaffCourseHorse Staff
Hi Ellie! I'm so sorry but make-up classes are not allowed since other classes may be full. Their instructors are also paid based on the number of students within their own classes, so attending a class outside your own is not allowed.

I really enjoyed this class and looked forward to it every week. The instructor Tammie was great! She was extremely helpful and encouraging. I always thought I would never be able to learn how to use the wheel it just took 2 classes for me to get the hang of it so it was a nice feeling!! I have signed up for classes with Tammie in November- super excited!

Loved this class. It's very fast moving but the teacher and classroom attendant are so helpful. 6 weeks flew by!

This course was great for beginners but also for those who might just be rusty. The instructor breaks down the steps for you and can answer any question. There's plenty of time for doing your own stuff but the instructor and monitor are also very hands-on and ready to help.

The instructor was kind, but not an amazing teacher. Definitely not enough one on one teaching to make it worth the price.

The class was supposed to be Beginner, but most of the participants were not beginners. By the second session, the instructor was already demonstrating how to trim. He tailored the class to the needs of the majority. Well, the majority were NOT beginners. Meanwhile, I couldn't even center yet, and most people were popping out 2 or 3 pieces to be fired. I paid for a Beginner class, but this wasn't Beginner. For as much as it costs, it was a total rip off. People who have no experience with ceramics should NOT take this class.
