Class Description

Description

What you'll learn in this kids programming class:

Python Programming for the Web is a variation on our introductory full-stack web development course. In this course, students will learn core Python back-end logic, basic front-end development using HTML and CSS, and web integration with the Flask framework. By the end of the class, students will have built their own functional web applications and have mastered the skills necessary to enter a college-level computer science course.

What you'll learn
In Python Programming for the Web, students will gain a comprehensive understanding of the technologies used to build web applications. Primary areas of concentration include object-oriented programming with Python, front-end development and design using HTML and CSS, and web integration with Flask. The course will culminate with the students building and deploying their own functional web applications.

Bash + Git
To become a developer, you need the right tools. Students will learn the crucial tools for collaboration and efficient coding by controlling their computers through the command line and use Git and Github for version control.

HTML + CSS
The framework for every website is built with HTML and styled wtih CSS. Students will master the Document Object Model and use linked CSS syntax to turn basic text into beautifully formatted and intentionally designed pages.

Responsive Layout
Flexbox Layout and CSS grid allow designers to create websites that present information clearly, regardless of whether the user is on a computer or mobile device.

Core Python
Python is most often used as a back-end language to write powerful and efficient algorithms for web applications, and is the core of most modern data science and machine learning.

Object Orientation
Object-oriented programming allows students to create more dynamic and responsive code using custom classes to manage data and automate tasks. Students will practice creating their own classes to build the logic for social media applicaitons and common computer games

APIs
Application Program Interfaces (APIs) allow programmers to access data and services from other web sources. Students will learn to work with APIs though web services like Giphy and Twilio to integrate features like SMS messaging into their projects

Flask
The Flask Microframework is an industry-standard lightweight framework that allows students to develop a deep understanding of Model-View-Controller design principles, allowing them to integrate their Python with their HTML and CSS.

Debugging
Part of being a great developer is learning to find and fix "bugs". Throughout the course, we introduce students to debugging best practices in Python
