Class Description

Description

What you'll learn in this self improvement class:

Who hasn't felt a little shy at parties? Maybe you've felt that social awkwardness or even social anxiety at parties, networking events or even workshops! Do you worry about people judging you as "not normal" in group settings?

This is the workshop series to attend. You will not be alone, and it is guaranteed that you will leave with new insights and a boost of social confidence to take with you each week.

This series is designed to:

  • Boost your social confidence at parties, networking events, other workshops, giving presentations and public speaking, etc.
  • Prove to you that you are not alone and that it is safe to explore new ways of approaching social events.
  • Give you deeper personal insight to fears around social interaction in order to co-creatively overcome those fears.
  • Clear the way and make space for personal expansion and more fulfilling relationships in your personal and professional life.
  • Create space for connection and community support and possibly lifelong friendships.
  • Be a really fun and productive way to spend a weeknight

The group will meet weekly to discover shared issues to explore through a dynamic role play method called Sociodrama. There will never be pressure to "perform." You may decide to volunteer for a role or you may choose to witness. No matter what you choose, you will learn something new about yourself and humanity.

This group is limited to 15 people. This is not group therapy. This is 'embodied problem solving' at its finest. Anyone can participate. There is no experience necessary besides being a human.

This is a group exploration in a safe space held by Jamie Lynn McCoppin, a drama therapist with over 45 hours of Sociodrama training. Jamie created and taught an original course for University students with speech anxiety in 2013 using Sociodrama to improve confidence. Students reported a 100% success rate.

Refund Policy

Due to the planning and preparation required for this unique workshop series, no refunds will be given up to 30 days before the first workshop session. However, if you are not able to attend one of the sessions, you may make-up that session by attending a drop-in session after the 6-week series that will be open to the public. The date for that drop-in session will be announced at the beginning of the session.

'Playing it Real' has been a wonderful group experience of connecting, asking questions, experimenting, learning about myself and how I relate to others in a deep, dynamic, engaging, playful way supported by Jamie's warm, encouraging, non-judgmental, creative and kind facilitation style. I was looking forward to each night and happily remember feeling alive and connected in the group process.

This program have made a huge impact on my life. I'm really not just saying that. The way you've shifted my mind and thinking which has always been in a state of fear, the way these classes helped me realize how I'm not alone and how I've already come so far from the past few years, and the surprising amount of so many takeaways I've had in such a short amount of time, have made a pivotal change in my life. I take away from this program so much and would love to be a part of more of your classes or anything you are involved in. I know I speak on behalf of everyone in the class that you've helped us in more ways than we may even ever know. Thank you for everything.

Question from Holly S.
is this class going to take place online?
Answer from Jamie M. Verified Educator
Hi Holly! The short answer is yes. My last in-person group had to move to the virtual platform of Zoom in the middle of the program due to social distancing. Participants were surprised to still enjoy the class and found great benefit in the new format. Feel free to check back in a few days for the online offering. Our next group will start on May 13th. I hope you and yours are safe and healthy at this time. Best wishes, Jamie from Spark of Play's Playing It Real.

Hi Jeanne, yes this course will help you a lot!
Answer from Jamie M. Verified Educator
Hi Jeanne, this is Jamie McCoppin, the facilitator and creator of Playing It Real. This is exactly what we aim to do in Playing It Real. Being a part of a group and getting chances to express yourself each week in a playful, fun and safe way leads to more confidence. It is an experiential group, and we have a lot of fun together. Many people have made friends and I provide spaces for reunions and chances to keep connecting with each other even after the 6 weeks are over. :)
