Class Description

Description

What you'll learn in this storytelling class:

Please note, this is a live Zoom class. Your Zoom Meeting Room code will be sent prior to class.

Storytelling has been a buzzword in business, sales and marketing for a few years – what makes a story a good story though? Whether you are telling one in the meeting room or the bar with friends, engaging stories are impossible to ignore, and boring, drawn out and highly detailed stories are exhausting.

A good story should come in a package – there needs to be a hook, drawing your audience in, a point – it can’t ramble into the abyss! – and there needs to be a solid ending – it doesn’t have to be a happily ever after, it does need to end. This class will focus in on the basics of good storytelling, with an emphasis on telling stories in a confident and engaging manner. Students will learn tips to craft effective stories for personal and professional environments, workshop potential stories (you’re welcome to bring one in!) and leave with personalized feedback on your own storytelling style.

Participants will need access to a computer and Zoom. You are welcome to be “on camera” as well (come as you are! We’ll be in yoga pants, most likely!). If you’re uncomfortable on camera, you’re welcome to participate via audio connection. This class is led by our Founder, Jen Brown.

It was a fun class. And surprisingly 2 hours went by so quick. The process was so simple but result was very satisfying.

Great class and a super nice group of participants. For two hours it was great. I probably would have given 5 starts if we had added time to dig into our personal challenges with story telling.

Such a fun class! Most of what we 'learned' about storytelling wasn't new information, but practicing it was helpful.

I’d suggest a retitle for this class to “Improv Games + Public Speaking Practice Session.” We played a handful of improv games (one called Pass the Clap, yet no one laughed). The biggest storytelling lesson was “stories have a beginning, a middle, and an end” and the we told a story to the group for 2 min. There were no strategies for telling better stories or constructive feedback given after. I do not recommend.

Great class for intro to public speaking. The class size is small which is very good for students to practice in 2 hour class time.

was my first evening course in a while, and the tempo and pace was perfect. Class was small enough to be personal and more informational, lots of time for questions. I enjoyed it.

Not about storytelling. This was more a class on speaking skills with some inspirational from improv. If you're a confident speaker with a high comfort level in speaking to people, formally or informally, you may not get much from this. I shared my fdbk at the end of class and teacher claimed she took liberties with the class format, which is why it differed from the course description. I still doubt it would have been about "how to tell an effective story" and "the key components of any effective story," just based on the way in which class tools were used.
