What you'll learn in this construction training:

EPA’s Renovation, Repair and Painting Final Rule (40 CFR 745) requires that renovations conducted for compensation, must be performed by Certified Firms using Certified Renovators. Renovating firms that wish to work in pre-1978 homes and child-occupied facilities must apply to EPA and pay a fee in order to become certified. 

Renovators seeking to become Certified Renovators must successfully complete an EPA-accredited renovator course or a course accredited by an EPA authorized State or Tribe. This course is the EPA model course for the Certified Renovators and as such meets all requirements in 40 CFR 745. This course will teach you how to comply with the EPA Renovation, Repair and Painting Rule and the HUD Lead Safe Housing Rule, and how to perform lead-safe work practices safely and effectively. You will receive a certificate, valid for five years.

Audience:
The audience for this course includes renovators, remodelers, painters, maintenance personnel, and any other workers removing or modifying painted surfaces.

Prerequisites:

Student must be able to communicate with the instructor in the language the course is held in. Valid picture ID required.

Materials:
Course handouts, test, videos, PowerPoint presentations, instructor evaluation sheet, attendance sign-in sheets, and supplies for hands-on activities.

Methods of Instruction:
A combination of lectures, PowerPoint presentations, open discussions, hands-on activities, and testing will be used throughout this course.

Learning Outcomes:
At the end of this course, the students shall be able to:
  1. Discuss the health problems related to lead, why lead is a problem you need to deal with, and who is put at risk if renovations are not handled correctly.
  2. Discuss what EPA and HUD rules require of Certified Firms and Certified Renovators.
  3. Determine if lead-based paint affects your work, and plan the work so that it is lead safe.
  4. Educate owners and residents in target housing, or owners and adult representatives in child-occupied facilities about how the work will affect lead in their property.
  5. Properly set up the work area so that dust and debris created by your work do not contaminate the property and leave behind lead dust.
  6. Work in a lead-safe manner and identify what practices are prohibited by the EPA and/or HUD rules, and properly use personal protective equipment.
  7. Effectively clean up dust generated by the work performed in the home or child-occupied facility, conduct a cleaning verification, and properly dispose of renovation waste.
  8. Create and maintain documentation of the work according to the requirements in the EPA and HUD Rules.
  9. Train non-certified renovation workers in lead safe practices while on the job.
Successful Completion:
In order to receive a certificate for the Lead Renovator Initial course, students must:
  • Be able to clearly communicate with the instructor and complete all paperwork in the language the course is delivered. No personal interpreters permitted.
  • Complete all required paperwork: registration, evaluation, attendance, etc.
  • Attend all required hours of the course. No make-up sessions permitted for this course.
  • Participate during class activities and reviews
  • Complete a written test and a hands-on assessment with a passing grade of 70%
No exceptions will be made. No partial credit awarded for any course.

Notes: 
  • Please bring a photo ID, as they will be checked on the start date. 
  • Students are asked to arrive at least 15 minutes before class.
  • Any missed sessions can be rescheduled for a later date by contacting [email protected]

Refund Policy

  • In order to cancel the booking you must contact us 8 business days in advance to be able to receive a full refund less 5% cancellation fee.
  • Every student who contacted us after this period will not be eligible for a refund and will have 6 months to use a paid deposit.

If the school cancels a course, students will receive a full refund.

In any event where a customer wants to cancel their enrollment and is eligible for a full refund, a 5% processing fee will be deducted from the refund amount.
