Rhiannon Platt

Teaches at Brooklyn Brainery

Rhiannon Platt is at least third generation fiber artist. Raised by seamstresses, crocheters, and fiber artists of all kinds, she picked up her first pair of needles over a decade ago. Since her first scarf, Rhiannon has gone on to fabricate for Lion Brand Yarn, Nathan Vincent, Olek, Jeila Gueramian, Londonkaye, and Levi’s. In between commissions, she finds time to write patterns and make endless sweaters.

This was a very enjoyable class. Rhiannon was attentive, warm, and well prepared. It was a plus that she had black, as well as natural color fabric so we could choose.

The instructor may be a great artist, but it wasn't enough to teach anyone. She was keep looking at her cell phone during the class and doesn't focus into the class, she herself doesn't have any passion for the class. Me & my friend were very disappointed.

This class was a great intro to embroidery! It was super chill with not too many people. They broke down each type of stitch and gave a lot of individualized instruction to those of us who needed it, which I really appreciated.

This was a great introductory class about learning how to read a pattern and apply different types of stitches. We also learned about supplies to get for making our own patterns. I would have liked a little more background on the application of various stitches and color theory -- how do warm and cool or dark and light colors create effects? I had a fun time and can't wait to finish my design.

I think the instructor did a fine job of going around the room, making sure people "got it" and kept the workshop content simple and structured enough so we could enjoy and learn. We did have opportunity to try out several different embroidery stitches during the class. However, I would suggest that: 1. the instructor make a single-page handout so people don't have to try to write anything down 2. the instructor suggest that the slower people not finish a particular stitch line (which they could finish later at leisure) and keep up with the class. That way no one is rushed. It took me a while to figure out this strategy.
