Class Description

Description

Learn to make your own amazing collage material that we will then incorporate through a range of collage techniques to make beautiful, lively works of art. The first sessions will focus on mark making with paint, printmaking, and paper marbling techniques. In the second half of the class, we'll cut and curate our painted papers to put together new color combinations and collage compositions. We'll look at examples from many artists working in collage and painting for ideas and inspiration.

Required Supplies

  1. PAPER
    • For making papers, I like to use a mixed media weight sketchbook but any paper that is around a 90lb weight and says it is good for wet and dry media will work
  2. PAINT & INK
    • Acrylic paint - set of basic colors or 3 - 5 colors you like
    • (OPTIONAL) Gouache paints Some of my favorite sets of gouache include:
    • Holbein Acryla Gouache
    • Kuretake Gansai Tambi Color Sets
    • Grumbacher Opaque Watercolor
    • Block printing ink, water-based, (a set of small tubes of 5+ colors is great)
  3. TOOLS Brushes
    • I recommend having at least one Round brush for watercolor or acrylic in a size 10 -14. It should come to a point. And then any other brushes you like! Plus one brush you can get covered in glue and not feel sad about it.
    • Palette knife
    • 2-inch brayer
    • Plexi or glass or other flat surface
    • Wood grainer / texture tool
    • Short blade scissor (2 inch blade that comes to a point) GLUE (pick one) Yes!
    • Paste
    • Mod Podge - Matte finish
    • Matte Gel Medium
