What you'll learn in this beginner drawing class:

You may be interested in drawing and painting, as both an experienced artist or as some one just starting out on the artistic path.

If you are a beginner, the artist -instructor will start you off on the fundamentals of drawing by creating your own still-life of objects to draw. For intermediate and advanced emerging artists, we work with what you are interested in creating, so that you can develop your own vision and style.  Our workshops are suited to all levels of skill and our philosophy stresses "personal vision", as well as learning the science and craft of art.

Reminders:
Drawing materials will be provided on the first session: paper, charcoal pencils etc.
If you wish to paint, please bring your materials: canvas, brushes, paints, mediums, etc.
After consultation with the student, a materials list will be provided to the student after the workshop.

The art classes are offered in the intimate home-studio of the artist in the heart of the Chelsea Art district of New York City.

Please note: Children ages 13 years of age to 16 yrs can attend, if an accompanying adult takes the class with the child.

Question from Anonymous
Would someone in a wheelchair or a walker be able to navigate the facility ok?
Answer from Sheri S. Verified Student
The Wednesday workshops have been canceled but there are still classes on Saturday. There is an elevator and the entrance to the building is on one level. I would ask the teacher, Rafael Raul Santiago if he could make room in the drawing area. He is very kind.
Answer from Brenda L. CourseHorse StaffCourseHorse Staff
Hi there! They had a student within a wheelchair before but found the student was not comfortable moving about and working because the studio space is just to tight to accommodate them properly with all the other students. Hope this helps.

Question from Kathy D.
I don’t know how to draw and am comfortable with abstract painting. What am I get out of this class? Thanks
Answer from Charlotte A. Verified Student
Raphael will provide you with as much guidance as you require for drawing and will be happy to start with the absolute basics. Lots of people that attend are complete beginners and he will run you through composition, the form of objects, scaling, drawings techniques etc. Also if you have a particular idea/piece you would like to do Raphael will help you develop that piece by doing studies and then a full painting. Highly recommend for all levels.
