Unlock your quilting potential at a renowned Manhattan workshop focusing on the iconic Dear Jane quilt. Master diverse techniques like hand piecing, machine piecing, foundation piecing, and hand appliqué for crafting sampler blocks. Whether starting fresh or continuing your masterpiece, join us to elevate your quilting skills.
All Dear Jane returns to Manhattan! Now is your chance to start this masterpiece quilt, or get back to work on your quilt in progress. Based on Jane Stickle’s iconic 1863 sampler quilt, Dear Jane is a great way to learn a variety of techniques by making these addictive little blocks. Some of the techniques covered will include: hand piecing, basic machine piecing, foundation piecing, and hand applique.
Please note: this is a multiple date class meeting on the 1st Wednesday of the month in March, April and May. All 3 sessions are included in the cost of the class. The dates are March 6th, April 3rd and May 1st.
Required supplies:
Book: Dear Jane: The Two Hundred Twenty-Five Patterns from the 1863 Jane A. Stickle Quilt by Brenda Papadakis, Scissors for fabric & paper, small embroidery scissors, Seam Ripper, Rotary Cutter, Acrylic Ruler (6 1/2” Square), #2 Pencil or Mechanical pencil, Hand sewing needles (Diane likes Size 9 Clover Gold Eye Appliqué Needles), 100% Cotton Thread in neutral colors for hand piecing, Fine Pins, pencil for marking dark fabric (silver, yellow or white), Freezer paper, Glue Stick (any kind), 6” Small flat ruler for drafting - not for rotary cutting
Fabric - 100% Cotton Fabric recommended - Your choice of solids, prints, or batik. You can discuss fabrics in more depth in class. Bring two quarter yards of contrasting fabric to the first class.
Additional supplies needed for specific techniques (such as Appliqué and Foundation Piecing) will be discussed in class, including:
6” Add-A-Quarter Ruler (for foundation piecing)
Dear Jane Acrylic Templates (includes Dear Jane Triangle and Square rulers with easy to read big numbers and built in 1/4 in seam allowance).
Tracing paper, Clover White Marking Pen, Hand quilting thread
Note: Please have a general knowledge of sewing and for classes that include machine sewing, please have experience using a machine.
We offer store credit to be used toward a future class if notice is given at least 72 hours before the class.
