Description

Dennis Kane teaches a workshop that will help you become more familiarized with the spectrum of dance music and the practice of being a dance music DJ, covering both playing and programming.  

This workshop includes:
  • Understanding equipment usage, mixers, decks, CDJs, monitors and headphones.
  • The construction/composition of a set, developing a relationship with your music collection, and building the beginnings of a personal style.
  • Learning how to mix and beatmatch dance music: Breakdown of where and when to mix, an understanding of the “break”, as well as an examination of various styles and approaches in regard to mixing. 
  • History of mixing approach, sound systems, fidelity and party environments will be covered.
  • Record digging, edit construction and general understanding of mood and momentum will also be covered.

Refund Policy

LEVEL 1 CLASSES:

  • All Level One classes are subject to change or cancellation by the Academy. In the event that a course must be cancelled, all students in that course are eligible for a full refund.
  • Cancellations by the student after the start of the current term are subject to a $50 cancellation fee as well as a $75 charge (per class attended).
  • No refunds will be given after the 3rd class.

SUMMER CAMPS:

  • Camp enrollment is 95% refundable up until one month prior to the camp start date.
  • Any cancellation after that time will not be issued a refund.
  • Campers may switch camp dates subject to availability up to June 1.

AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAMS:

  • After School Programs are subject to change or cancellation by the Academy. In the event that a course must be cancelled, all students in that course are eligible for a full refund.
  • Cancellations by the student or parent after the start of the current term are subject to a $50 cancellation fee as well as a $75 charge (per class attended).
  • No refunds will be given after the 3rd class.

PART-TIME PROGRAM:

  • The Part Time Program is non-refundable.
  • Part Time students are allowed one term off during their certification track. However if a student takes more than one class term off, then a $500 reinstatement fee will be incurred and a mandatory evaluation of student to assess the correct level class upon re-entry. Students may have to retake a class at an additional fee.

ACCELERATED PROGRAM:

  • The Accelerated Program is non-refundable.
  • The Accelerated Program meets twice weekly (vs. once in the Part Time Program) for a period of 32 weeks.
  • Due to the intensive nature of this course, there are no breaks from class.

IN PERSON PRIVATE LESSONS:

  • 1-on-1 Lessons are non-refundable.
  • Any student canceling a lesson must do so at least 24-hours in advance.
  • Cancellations within 24-hours of a scheduled lesson are subject to a 50% cancellation fee.
  • Lessons must be completed within 6 months of purchase.

LIVE ONLINE LESSONS / KIDS LIVE ONLINE DJ LESSONS:

  • Online Lessons are non-refundable.
  • Any student canceling a lesson must do so at least 24-hours in advance.
  • Cancellations within 24-hours of a scheduled lesson are subject to a 50% cancellation fee.
  • Lessons must be completed within 6 months of purchase.

In any event where a customer wants to cancel their enrollment and is eligible for a full refund, a 5% processing fee will be deducted from the refund amount.

  • Dance Music Mixing & Programming

    Positives: - The instructor was very knowledgable and enthusiastic. He was approachable and very helpful with questions. - The material is great. Ableton Live is incredibly fun to work with. - When they had to reschedule one of the classes for a date that I couldn't make, they let me have a free private lesson. Negatives: They really don't have their act together. - The classroom was crammed... small and uncomfortable. There was no room to work on music production, as the workstations were already occupied by turn tables (which are not used in this class). One of the desks and one of the chairs were broken throughout the course. - To make matters worse, they somehow overbooked the class, so there were too many people crammed into this tiny awkward room. - Their co-ed bathroom door was broken throughout the course. They didn't seem to have any intention of fixing it. - They canceled one of the classes and rescheduled it for a different random day of the week. I had purposely scheduled my travel dates around this class, so this was beyond infuriating. - Since there was no room to work in the classroom, you couldn't follow along and try anything as it was being taught. Taking notes was difficult too, since there was no surface to write on. - There was a gap between the door and the wall, and the receptionist was often loudly chatting and laughing. You could hear everything that was going on in the other classroom, too. It was difficult to focus. - I talked to them about getting a refund, and they said I needed to talk directly to their IT department (seriously?) They didn't even seem to be curious about why I was interested in leaving the class. I would have gladly given them some constructive criticism instead of writing a public review, but here we are.
