We will gather together each week to sing from a wide repertoire in a casual, supportive, fun and community-oriented setting! This weekly gathering will be a place to meet other singers, experiment and grow as a vocalist and musician, and continue to build this musical community that we've been growing for the past four years.
Over the course of a season, we typically learn 8 - 10 songs of varying complexity, as well as a number of simpler songs and rounds, with harmony being the focus and common thread throughout all the music. We use a variety of teaching methods, from sheet music to interval scores to ear training; sight-reading will be helpful but is certainly not required.
As for repertoire, we'll cover everything from American pop songs (the Beach Boys, the Roches) to country (Dolly Parton & the Trio Album) to Nueva Canción (Violeta Parra) to traditional music (sea shanties, Georgian healing songs, American folk music, Greek folk songs) and lots of other beloved music, as well as songs that people in the group are excited to sing. There will be opportunities for solos, as well as opportunities to build smaller ensembles within the larger group, and occasional performances in low-key settings, most likely on the stage of the Jalopy Theatre.
